Risk & Disaster Management

Another core capability of FeuReX deals with the widespread field of risk & disaster management.

Disaster management in this context is the discipline dealing with and avoiding risks. It is a discipline that involves preparing, supporting, and rebuilding society when natural or human-made disasters occur. Disaster management is the continuous process by which all individuals, groups, and communities manage hazards in an effort to avoid or ameliorate the impact of disasters resulting from the hazards.

Actions taken depend in part on perceptions of risk of those exposed. Effective disaster management relies on thorough integration of emergency and disaster plans at all levels of government and non-government involvement. Activities at each level
(individual, group, community) affect the other levels.
It is common to place the responsibility for governmental disaster management with the institutions for civil defence or within the conventional structure of the emergency services. In the private sector, disaster management is commonly referred to as business continuity management.

The process of disaster management normally involves four phases: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
The scope of services of FeuReX just covers these four processes. Our clients in this filed are similar to the consulting & support branch.

A core competence within the section of Risk & Disaster Management is the respond and command training based on a variety of exercises tailored to the clients needs. By the help of discussion-based exercises, operations-based exercises, functional-based exercises and full-scale exercises it is possible to highlight different aspects of successful disaster management.

Beginning with the discussion and then execution of specific plans and procedures as well as established policies under crisis conditions the reality of operations in a functional area can be simulated by presenting complex and realistic problems that require rapid and effective responses by trained personnel in a highly stressful environment. A full-scale exercise finally provides an opportunity to execute plans, procedures, and cooperative (mutual aid) agreements in response to a simulated live event in a highly stressful environment.

Disasters, hazards or natural calamities affect nations all over the world. It is therefore of paramount importance that
a plan of action for dealing with disasters as well as the four phases of disaster management is formulated and periodically updated – with FeuReX assistance!
